Data Errors in: Menopause and Hypothalamic-Pituitary Sensitivity to Estrogen

JAMA. 2007;298:288.

Data Errors: In the Original Contribution entitled "Menopause and Hypothalamic-Pituitary Sensitivity to Estrogen" published in the December 22/29, 2004, issue of JAMA (2004;292[24]:2991-2996), data on symptoms from 2 patients were inadvertently omitted. On page 2993, second column, the last paragraph should begin "Twenty-nine women. . . . " Also on page 2993, the P values in the last paragraph of the "Results" section should be  = .03 for hot flashes or night sweats in group 3 women vs group 1 women;  = .03 for group 3 women vs group 2 women; and  = .93 for group 1 vs group 2 women. In Table 2 on page 2995, the data in column 2 should be 29 (No. of women), 24 (mean % of days with trouble sleeping), 12 (mean % of days with hot flashes or night sweats), and 15 (52) (No. [%] of women not experiencing hot flashes or night sweats). The P values in the last column of Table 2, reading down, should be .80, .02, and .17. Inclusion of these data in statistical analyses did not change the significance of any finding, and the original interpretation and conclusions in the article are not affected.
