We all have more leisure time than ever before, and as leisure increases, so do leisure activites. Some of the hobbies and sports which people are able to enjoy unfortunately contain potential risks to health and even life.

Many sports hazards are obvious and well publicized. The dangers of scuba-diving and sports-car racing are known; mountaineering is especially notorious, to those who do not understand the mountain lure, as a dangerous and seemingly pointless activity.

Less familiar are the dangers of some sports associated with the semifictional lore of the American Wild West. Particularly fascinating is the entity we might label "quick-draw leg." Duffy¹ reported in 1963 a series of 24 patients with this unusual wound. At least 19 of these men admitted that they sustained the injury while practicing the western style fast draw of handgun from holster a la Earp, Masterson, and others of that ilk. Fortunately . . .
