To the Editor:—
This letter concerns the published reply to the question of "recommendations regarding the equipment and performance desirable in the Master '2-step' exercise tolerance test" (203:161,1968).
Only in the first sentence of his long answer does Crawford W. Adams, MD, reply to the question and that only indirectly. He refers the questioner to an article by us, Master and Rosenfeld, (Mod Conc Cardiov Dis 36:19 [April] 1967). Dr. Adams then proceeds to give gratuitous and dangerous advice which is at variance with our own views. His advice may be harmful to the patient, and if followed, may subject the physician to legal suit for the production of heart attacks. In addition, some of the "precautions" advocated seem cumbersome, impractical, and unnecessary.
