To the Editor:—
Frida Kahlo de Rivera, than whom no painter ever more successfully transferred his (or her) emotions to canvas, would, were she able, reject your designation of her as a European, with a whirlwind of protest. Though her father was a German-born photographer, her mother was Mexican; she herself was born and bred a Mexican; and passionately Mexican she lived. As for the painting's intending "to illustrate the transfusion of cultures which the marriage epitomized"—guess again!
