To the Editor.—

I want to congratulate the editorial staff and the officers of THE JOURNAL for publishing under letters "Control Programs for Heroin Addiction," (210:2094, 1969). Dr. Neumann has shown great courage in what I know to be correct exposure of the enormous funds wasted in treating addicts. The exposure of disposition of funds dedicated by the taxpayer for the control of heroin addiction and crime on the street will be exposed in news media within a matter of weeks. The actions of some men of medicine in this area in the past has not been that of men of integrity. Hundreds of millions of dollars have been used to finance programs for control of narcotic addiction known to be worthless, while the methadone program of Dole and Nyswander has received little or no federal funding.
