To the Editor.—
This doggerel by Mrs. Edward Craster is offered in the hope that the publication of this letter will resolve a mounting personal conflict:
A centipede was happy, quite Until the toad, in fun Said, "Pray which leg comes after which?" This raised her doubts to such a pitch She fell distracted in a ditch, Uncertain how to run.
By now I am receiving questionnaires of such length, with such frequency, and from such diverse sources that if I were to answer them I would do nothing else. Answering cannot be delegated, or they would not have been sent to me. This is despite the fact that many of them are deserving of reply, posing the additional problem which to answer, or whether to answer none. Furthermore, most questionnaires are either unfamiliar with the field they are inquiring about or so nonspecific as to be meaningless if answered
