During April, a young man, properly wearing a white coat and a large mustache, distributed copies of a 24-page tabloid titled "Street Medicine, Chicago Style: A Newspaper of Health Politics Prepared by the Student Health Organization of Chicago." Although the front page carried a price tag of 25 cents, the papers were free to any takers at 535 North Dearborn. The back page showed in large print a four-letter word that has rarely been seen in an orthodox newspaper—the exception being a misprinted advertisement for a shirt sale.
Among the many cartoons contained in the paper, six were derogatory or defamatory to the police, seven to the medical profession, and nine to "the establishment." Advocacy of violence was the strident note of much that was printed. The Student American Medical Association was denounced for its relationships with the AMA and the drug industry, the American Nurses' Association for promoting professionalism,
