To the Editor.—

Few medical news snoopers analyze adequately, and I must present some items that have appeared, with interpretations.

Tooth Painting.—

New methods for preventing decay include painting a liquid plastic on the tooth with a fine camel's hair brush. The plastic film is exposed to ultraviolet light to harden it. I hope for bright new colors, with polka dots.

Eskimos and Polar Bears.—

At a Geneva meeting, scientists concluded that "because the Eskimo population is growing faster than the polar bear population," it may be necessary to change the Eskimos' way of life. Do they mean that instead of feeding polar bears to Eskimos, Eskimos will be fed to polar bears? It might work.

Iceberg-Towing.—

Visions of icebergs towed from Antarctica onto California and Arizona deserts are realistically possible. Proposals describe Australian deserts to be within practical distance. The bergs are first wrapped in a thermal-resistant foam plastic . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
