To the Editor:—
I appreciate Drs. Dine and Shuster's interest in "Renal Papillary Necrosis" (210: 1098, 1969) and concur in the use of DIP prior to retrograde pyelography. This roentgenographic technique has decreased the need for retrogrades in many instances. I have employed DIP in the past five to six years with often surprisingly good results.
Our enthusiasm, however, in patients with BUN values greater than 100 mg/100 ml has not paralleled that of Drs. Dine and Shuster as pyelographic detail with nonopaque filling defects is best demonstrated with retrograde pyelograms in our hands.
