The Physician Recognition Award

The American Medical Association has recently established a voluntary recognition award for physician participation in continuing education. The award is open to all physicians in the United States.
For those physicians wishing to qualify, the requirements are 150 credit hours of continuing education in a period of three years, 60 hours or more made up of required educational activities, the remainder—up to 90 hours—of elective educational activities. The required education activities are accredited continuing education courses, papers or publications, and teaching. For the recent graduate of a medical school, internship-residency, education for an advanced degree, and research activities will quailify as required education activities. Elective education activities include such things as attendance at the scientific meetings of other national professional societies, local or regional scientific meetings, presentation of scientific exhibits, and additional teaching exercises.
