Most readers of THE JOURNAL are aware of the QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS department. During 1969 and the first six months of 1970, 364 items appeared there. Although that may seem an impressive number, it hardly matches another answering service for physicians. Many inquiries about drugs and therapy are answered directly by letter and literature extracts. This method is used when the question has previously appeared in "Q & A" or when it is thought to be of insufficient general interest to merit placement in the tightly restricted pages of THE JOURNAL.
The latter types of questions are shunted to the Department of Drugs where they are handled with amazing alacrity and efficiency. To give some idea of the scope of this operation, during the 18 months previously mentioned, the Department answered almost 800 inquiries.
