To the Editor. —
Dr. Friederici's statement about the complexity of the mechanisms of pleasure in smoking reminded me of how startled I was to find that I was unable to appreciate the sensations of cigarette smoke inhalation while smoking in a dark room. Visual clues must be important in smoking pleasure; I suspect the perception of the presence of the smoke itself is the important factor.
