The Judicial Council wishes to express its gratitude to all who have cooperated in its 1969 survey of medical discipline. The Judicial Council's report of that survey is presented herewith. The figures reported here were obtained from questionnaires mailed to the secretaries of state boards of medical examiners and state medical society executive secretaries. Frequently, the compilation of the necessary information involved considerable time and effort, and the Judicial Council is appreciative of the assistance it received which makes it possible to bring this report to the profession and the public.
Medical discipline operates on many planes, from the hospital and local county medical society to discipline by the state boards of medical examiners which may result in the revocation of the physician's license to practice medicine in the state. At every plane, discipline is administered by physicians in discharge of their professional responsibility to society. This is peer review
