AMA Physician's Recognition Award— A Successful Start and an Important Future

As of June 30, 1970, the American Medical Association Physician's Recognition Award Program completed its first year. During the planning for this program, a goal of 10,000 physicians qualifying for the award during the first year was established. Physicians who have qualified for the award, along with those who were waiting to see the first year's results before applying will be interested to know that as of June 30 more than 14,000 physicians qualified. Qualifying physicians were almost equally divided between those in practice and those in residency training programs. There were approximately 6,000 applicants who did not qualify on the basis of the information contained in their first application.

The principal intent of the award program is to encourage and recognize those physicians who participate in continuing medical education.
