House passes NIH budget; few gains seen for research

Scientists across the nation were probably encouraged recently by the first concrete indication of Congressional support for biomedical research.

Many physician-investigators have been cautiously counting on support from the Senate and House of Representatives all along. After all, how many politicians would want to be known for delaying the discovery of a "cure for cancer" in an election year?
