The house officer or medical student rotating through endocrinology should find this a useful introduction, and the older clinician will find it an interesting and easy-to-read review. The writing is crisp and rather dogmatic, with more care for getting points across than for presenting all the qualifying or uncertain aspects.
It is not a comprehensive reference work, since there is no bibliographic support for most statements, even the controversial ones. On the other hand, it should prove a useful clinical guide to the clinician who does not deal frequently with endocrine problems, since there are fairly detailed tables for determining bone and dental ages and brief appendices which explain how several endocrine tests are carried out for thyroid and adrenal function. References are provided for the tests, but these are sometimes to the classic or first description of the test, neglecting later modifications. More recent references would have been helpful.
