Approved Medical Schools

There were 101 American medical schools with students in attendance during the 1969-1970 academic year, including two new schools, the Medical College of Ohio at Toledo and the Louisiana State University at Shreveport School of Medicine. Of the 101 schools, 87 were fully accredited, four-year schools granting the MD degree, including two, Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York and University of Texas Medical at San Antonio, which granted their first degrees in June 1970. There were six accredited two-year schools of the basic medical sciences and eight schools which had students enrolled but were not yet eligible for full accreditation.

As noted in the "Recent Events of Special Interest" section (page 1484), enrollments also increased substantially. First-year enrollments increased by 538 to 10,401, and total enrollment was 37,669, an increase of 1,834 students over the number of the previous year. Graduates of all schools . . .
