From Sept 1, 1966, through Dec 31,1968, the Liaison Committee on Medical Education surveyed and accredited 26 medical schools. For 25 of the schools Smythe1 has presented data among which the following are interesting.

The range of total expenditures was from $3.68 million at a school enrolling 85 first-year students to $49.7 million at a school with 132 first-year enrollees. The median for total expenditures was $11.95 million. The school ranking 16th in total expenditures ($10.58 million) enrolled 186 first-year students, a number exceeded by only one other school, which ranked third in total expenditures ($25.73 million) and had an entering class of 206 students. Numbers of first-year classes ranged from 61 to 206 (median 91).
