Drs Galloway and Koepke are quite correct in stating that the measurement of total serum protein concentration only can miss declines of immunoglobulin levels that may be significant. Regulations of the Food and Drug Administration also require testing the serum of plasmapheresis donors either by electrophoresis or by quantitating immunoglobulins. These tests must be done on samples taken at the time of the first plasmapheresis and at least every four months thereafter.
