In Reply.—

The case report was intended to alert medical personnel to a potential hazard of mechanical head restraint. The question of battering seemed irrelevant to the main point of the article.

At the time of the patient's hospitalization, Neurology, the consulting service, advised that the patient's family be investigated by the Boston City Hospital Trauma X team. During the ensuing 3 1/2 years, the child has not been reported as a battering suspect to the Inflicted Injury Unit of the Massachusetts Department of Public Welfare. All cases in which there is suspicion of battering must, by Massachusetts law, be registered with the Unit. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
