Multiphasic Health Testing

MULTIPHASIC health testing was called to the attention of American medicine in 1972 by the Department of Community Health of the American Medical Association. It consists of collecting specimens from humans and reporting test results—an incomplete health service. Periodic health appraisal in medical practices, schools, certain businesses, and industry has been recommended by physicians for many years. Particularly important were the cases of cancer, diabetes, glaucoma, and unsuspected cardiovascular disease which were discovered in persons who thought they were in excellent health.

This form of testing involves fixed units, such as physicians' offices, testing centers, or mobile units capable of doing certain screening tests. The importance of physicians' evaluation and interpretation of test results has been emphasized and in no way replaces diagnosis and treatment by the physician.
