To the Editor.—
I was distressed to see the recent article by Myron R. Schoenfeld, MD, on aspects of Paganini's medical history (238:40, 1978). The author makes various sweeping medical claims without proper deductive proof and authentication. A careful analysis of extant data is not given.
He does not refer to the previous issue of THE JOURNAL that carried a well researched article on the same topic by Smith and Worthington (199:820, 1967). Bibliographic entries in standard encyclopedias are more complete than Schoenfeld's bibliography. Schoenfeld certainly did not prove that the great virtuoso had Marfan's syndrome.
