In Reply.—
Dr Renshaw has summarized briefly the value of supportive therapy in school-aged boys with DMD. We endorse his comments completely, and some of our previous publications have recognized the value of such a multidisciplinary approach.1,2 Despite the merits of such palliative programs, they do not seem to have much relevance to the issue of early diagnosis of DMD, which our article addressed. As long as there remains no therapy that will reverse or arrest the muscle degeneration in these youngsters, many physicians will question the merits of early diagnosis.
