The 35th Assembly of the World Medical Association

Delegates to the 35th World Medical Assembly (WMA) in Venice in October 1983 had the privilege of a private audience with the Pope at the Vatican following the close of the Assembly. The Pope referred to the work of the Assembly in his address, which is reprinted in full in this issue of THE JOURNAL along with the remarks of Andre Wynen, MD, Secretary General of the World Medical Association, who spoke on behalf of the WMA during the audience.

By way of background, the American Medical Association is a founding member of the WMA, which was organized in 1947. The AMA continues to provide leadership to the Association in cooperation with 40 other national medical associations.
