I would like to clarify a statement in my previous letter, in which I described the anxiolytic alprazolam (Xanax) as "exceptional."¹ I meant to convey that, unlike conventional antianxiety agents, alprazolam seems to have antidepressant properties.² Indeed, its use in anxious, depressed patients may be accompanied by neuroendocrine changes suggestive of recovery from depression.³ . . .
