SI Units for Clinical Laboratory Data

THE AMERICAN Medical Association (AMA) has been an active member of the American National Metric Council (ANMC) for the past five years and has served as secretariat to the Biomedical (later changed to Medicine) Sector Committee. The Council on Scientific Affairs has been kept informed of this liaison activity and has had input in the activities of the ANMC through its own Advisory Panel on SI Units. This Advisory Panel was instrumental in developing the two previous Council on Scientific Affairs reports: Report E (A-78), "Adoption of International System of (SI) Units for Clinical Chemistry," and Report E (A-80), "Progress in Adoption of SI Units."

In 1982, the "Medical and Health Coordinating Group" of ANMC was reorganized to contain ten sector committees, of which the following four are active: Laboratory Medicine Sector Committee, Medical Devices Sector Committee, Medicine Sector Committee, and Professional Journal Sector Committee.
