To the Editor.—

Much of the Aug 3, 1984, issue of THE JOURNAL devoted itself to the horrors of nuclear war; throughout the issue was the constant implication that implementation of nuclear freeze is mandatory in the light of potential conflict between the United States and the Soviet Union. Early in July 1984, the World Bank reported the imminent population explosion facing a significant portion of the world between now and the year 2150. Despite the fact that the dire contents of the World Bank Report had been anticipated for well over half a decade and much discussion has been offered in many public forums over what can be done both to reduce this population increase and to feed those who are a product of it, none of the contributing authors of the Aug 3 issue gave consideration to the potential threat of our own nuclear annihilation inherent in such . . .
