To the Editor.—
A question regarding "Rheumatoid Arthritis and Floppy Head" syndrome appeared in the Jan 4 issue of JAMA.1 Neither of your two consultants appeared to be familiar with the problem.
As the inquirer describes the case, it was not "floppy head" syndrome but, rather, overactivity of neck flexors. In 1978, we described this2 in four women as "flexicollis." The cause is apparently cerebrovascular disease at the site of the neck-righting reflex. We have since seen four more persons—all female.
