To the Editor.—
The article by Gleicher1 underscores the marked dichotomy that exists between the theory of obstetrical practice (represented by Dr Gleicher and the Cesarean Birth Task Force Consensus statements) and the actual day-to-day practice of obstetricians in "the suburbs" (who make up the physicians who perform the cesarean sections). The geographical area referred to as "the suburbs" is addressed as if it were a medical wasteland of knowledge.
