In January 1985 we will begin monthly publication of the next edition of the Journal of the American Medical Association in Hong Kong. The Southeast Asian edition of JAMA (SEA-JAMA) will be distributed in nine countries: Burma, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Thailand. This edition is added to those already serving the People's Republic of China, Japan, France, Switzerland, West Germany, Belgium, and Italy.¹ We are pleased with all of these efforts, but we are particularly excited about SEAJAMA because it is new and different in so many ways.

• It will be our first major entry into what is known as the "third world." Of course, our regular English-language version circulates in scores of third world countries, but the number of subscriptions is small and includes mostly universities, hospitals, companies, and government and private institutions.
