To the Editor.—
With great distress I noted in A PIECE OF MY MIND that Dr Elkins1 treated the severely asthmatic and ultimately dying child with β-blockers. This class of medications is contraindicated in bronchospastic conditions and may have significantly contributed to the boy's demise.
Perhaps the guinea fowl should have been considered as a bribe after all—a bribe to review, reconsider, and change the previously administered treatment.
