One of the principal joys of being elected to the office of President of this Association is that it allows me to talk before many audiences of doctors. I would like to assure you that no group of physicians—and in this case, I would also include outstanding laymen—exceeds this one on my personal list of important audiences.

On the subject of being elected, by the way, I would like to give you something to look forward to. I have the honor of being the third President of the AMA from Georgia. It took 37 years for us to elect the first one, in 1884. Fifty-nine years later, the second one took office. And in only 42 more years, here I am.
