To the Editor.—

The PHOTO/ESSAY, "Histoplasmosis Diagnosed on a Peripheral Blood Smear From a Patient With AIDS,"1 was submitted by five physicians, each of whom will add the citation to his curriculum vitae. Good for them.

But what of the real hero, the "astute medical technologist" who made the diagnosis? Should not the astute medical technologist who made this report possible have been offered authorship? Has the technologist received any acknowledgment such as a commendation in his or her personnel record? Such a commendation would be helpful when the time comes for that astute medical technologist to search for another, more rewarding job. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
