To the Editor.—
I read with interest the article by Rubin et al1 that appeared in the March 1 issue of THE JOURNAL. The authors purport to describe the first fatal case of herpes simplex type 2 in a healthy adult without immunosuppression or encephalitis.
In January 1983, the Southern Medical Journal published a similar case study prepared by me and my colleagues.2
