To the Editor.—

Krober and colleagues' have added yet another convincing bit of evidence that the clinical course of streptococcal pharyngitis is altered by early antibiotic therapy. The closing paragraph of the accompanying editorial by Dr Fulginiti² suggests that we should be "more liberal in the administration of penicillin" to individuals with a high likelihood of having streptococcal pharyngitis and that we "discontinue therapy in those patients who have negative cultures." I thoroughly agree with the first recommendation, but I question whether we should stop use of antibiotics in patients with negative cultures. . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
