To the Editor.—
It is interesting to note that the conclusion of Krober et al1 concerning the efficacy of early treatment of streptococcal pharyngitis is essentially based on a comparison of seven patients (penicillin group) with documented streptococcal pharyngitis with eight patients (placebo group) with documented streptococcal pharyngitis. Considering the frequency of this disease in the United States, I would advise extreme caution in altering clinical practice based on a study with a total of only 15 patients with documented streptococcal pharyngitis.
