To the Editor.—
To the list of modern maladies add one more. A healthy 24-year-old man fell asleep for 30 minutes while wearing the earphones of a portable personal cassette player. The right pinna was pressed against the hard plastic of the speaker, from which the protective foam cuff was missing because of previous damage. On awakening, he noted pain in the pinna and a swelling developed. Aspiration yielded 1.5 mL of clear yellow fluid two days after the incident. Firm pressure and occasional repeated aspiration were required over many days to resolve the seroma.
