In Reply.—

Dr Alonso states that my opposition to drug testing as expressed by me in various journals is well known to forensic scientists. I have been actively involved in drug testing for over 30 years as a forensic toxicologist. I have supported and will continue to support properly conducted drug testing. I will continue to be critical of any drug testing that in my opinion is improperly conducted and improperly interpreted.

I am not aware whether anything I have said or written applies to the analysis of drugs by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation or any other laboratory in the state of Georgia. The majority of people arrested for driving under the influence have alcohol alone or together with one or more of the large number of drugs included in Dr Alonso's second reference.1 Impaired drivers should be removed from the highways, legally, whatever the reason.
