HIGHLIGHTS OF THE 1986 Education Issue Editorial

Dr Richard L. Egan's editorial identifies several factors in the environment of US medical education that threaten the current system. He argues that any changes in the locale and/or method of educating future physicians must take into account the patient as an essential resource for the educational program.

Special Studies

A special study on foreign medical school graduates (FMGs) reveals details on the location of programs and institutions training FMGs. The programs with FMG residents were concentrated in seven states and Puerto Rico and had 35% of all residents but 64% of all FMG residents.
