MUTUAL SUPPORT: AMA AND THE ALLIED HEALTH PROFESSIONS

Allied health professionals are described in US Public Law 99-129 as persons who share in the responsibility for the delivery of health care services or related services, including services relating to the identification, evaluation, and prevention of diseases and disorders; dietary and nutrition services; health promotion services; rehabilitation services; or health systems management services.

The article that follows discusses the goals and methods of various bodies that collaborate under the umbrella of the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) to accredit allied health educational programs in a rapidly changing health care environment.

For more than 50 years, the American Medical Association (AMA) and its members have recognized the value of participating extensively in various activities to promote quality education for allied health personnel.
