To the Editor.—

The survey by Belsey et al,1 "Laboratory Test Analysis Near the Patient," in your Feb 14 issue was timely and comprehensive.

However, it did omit one of the world's oldest and largest producers of laboratory materials: Fisher Scientific. The article's Table 13 does list our headquarters address (711 Forbes Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15219) and telephone number (412-562-8300) but gives them to "V-Tech, Inc."

I can only think that somewhere, in some computer's memory, are the other Fisher data, all excluded from the pertinent tables: our pregnancy tests (including Pregna-Clone, a monoclonalbased test kit that represents a major speed-up in tube tests, ie, as little as 30 minutes); our urinalysis test systems; our blood cell counter, hematology, and chemistry analyzer supplies; and our various immunodiagnostic test systems.

The article will prove a valuable guide to office practitioners, but, in a personal way, it was somewhat like reading . . . [Full Text PDF of this Article]
