To the Editor.—
I read with interest Dr Olsen's response to Dr Carr in the Dec 5 LETTERS section.1 It reminded me of a patient I recently saw in the emergency room—a man in his early 30s with a penile hematoma. This injury had occurred during a rather gymnastic dalliance several hours before. I treated the patient appropriately and recommended to him that he be somewhat less athletic in his future encounters. I made no such recommendation to his partner.
It seems to me that Dr Carr's advice to the patient with "honeymoon cystitis"2 was entirely reasonable and based on common sense. Dr Olsen might want to seek the advice of a dermatologist for what seems to be an acute case of "thin-skinned syndrome."
