A medical editor has to be a keeper of the conscience of a profession; if he tries to live up to this ideal he will be always getting into trouble.

At its annual meeting held at the National Library of Medicine in Bethesda, Md, on Sept 10 through 13, the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (The Vancouver Group) unanimously approved a statement regarding editorial freedom.
