The Cover
The Art of The Far Side
Alan M. Langlieb, Tufts University School of Medicine
The artist of this month's Pulse cover should be quite familiar to medical students. Gary Larson has been teaching us (and many of our professors) about human behavior, science, and medicine throughout the past decade. His cartoons circulate widely among the medical community; one finds them posted on doors of research labs, projected as the first slide of a Grand Rounds lecture, and clipped from newspapers to be sent to colleagues near and far. We know all too well "the far side" of medicine. The genius of Larson is that he makes us appreciate it with a smile.
Since 1984, The Far Side has been distributed internationally in more than 900 newspapers; more than 15 million collections of The Far Side have been sold. Larson selected this month's cover with Pulse's readership in mind.
