To the Editor.
— "Overanxiousness" in women about their health, leading to greater use of health services,1 may be due to temperamental differences in gender-mediated clinical features of depression, which are manifested by women's less active, more ruminative responses that are linked to dysfunction of the right frontal cortex in which the metabolic rate is higher in females.2 An understanding of the role of gender-related cerebral asymmetries in the development and progression of coronary artery disease and dementia, and in adverse responses to medication, can lead the physician to respect female patients' concerns and anxieties regarding their health.3-7
