To the Editor.

—The JAMA article "Asbestos Removal, Health Hazards, and the EPA," prepared by the American Medical Association (AMA) Council on Scientific Affairs,¹ was stunning in its unbalanced research and shallow analysis.

The Council on Scientific Affairs ignores two central issues:

1. How do you manage asbestos in a building if you don't know it's there?
