To the Editor.
—Sack et al1 recently described improved survival with interposed abdominal compression CPR. This technique is not new and was originally described by Ohomoto and coworkers in 1976.2 Sack and colleagues reported a 25% survival rate with interposed abdominal compression CPR as compared with 7% with standard CPR. The survival rate with standard CPR found by Sack et al was extremely low when compared with previous studies.3-5 Their poor results after standard CPR suggest a selection bias in favor of interposed abdominal compression CPR and/or ineffectively performed standard CPR.
