To the Editor.
—Michaels and Levine1 present troubling and persuasive data about human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)— related orphans in the United States. Nicholas and Abrams2 endorse their findings. It is essential to note that the best way to avoid the impending "social catastrophe," sorrows, and lost promise associated with HIV orphans is to prevent HIV infection in women. Effective HIV prevention programs for women must be established now.
