Metered-Dose Inhalers: Drug Delivery Over the Life of a Canister-Reply

—Dr Weiss states that after the 17th day of use the strength of the spray declined and his symptoms of cough-variant asthma recurred.

Unfortunately, the canister that Weiss sent to us was lost by the manufacturer. However, another lot was tested for medication delivery. The results showed that there was no difference in the amount of medication delivered when the AeroBid canister was full or when the last 10 puffs were tested from the same canister (Table 1).

The weight of the AeroBid canister was obtained after 14 puffs, 68 puffs, 86 puffs, and 100 puffs to determine the average puff delivery at each test point (Table 2).

Our determinations indicate that there is no reduction in the amount of flunisolide delivered using in vitro measurements.
