To the Editor.
—Thank you for the Editorial by Dr Rennie and Ms Flanagin.1 The same week, I was approached by a ghostwriter on behalf of a pharmaceutical company. He showed me a sample of his handiwork, a long review to be submitted as authored by a well-known professor that had evolved from the professor's sketchy outline.
The currency of academia is publications. What degree of assistance is legitimate? Whose assistance? Good reviews are very useful, but will reviews now be regarded with suspicion? Will serious authors now shun them?
